Chapter 66 Dividing the Troops
Chapter 66 Dividing the Troops
Upon reaching the outer edge of the Soul Beast Forest, this place is like an insurmountable chasm, which the horse can no longer cross!
The group had no choice but to proceed on foot, watching helplessly as the location marked in the mission drew closer and closer at a snail's pace!
When you reach the area marked as missing by the mission personnel!
Wu Heyi suddenly woke up with a start. Wasn't this the very place where the traitor from the academy had appeared back then?
I still remember that it was the traitor and his test subject who were executed.
He attempted to fuse his own cells with those of a soul beast to create a completely new life form, whose cultivation speed was nothing short of miraculous.
However, the life cycle of that kind of life form is extremely unstable. At that time, the Soul Master was still in the experimental stage. He had also thought of using other people's cells for fusion, but all of them failed!
The problem has resurfaced in this very place. Wu Heyi was able to realize this so quickly, so Mi'er, who took on this task back then, must have been fully aware of it as well!
She mysteriously disappeared, presumably because she sensed something amiss, or perhaps the Soul Master from back then didn't truly fail, and one of his test subjects knew Mi'er.
Such chilling associations made Wu Heyi dare not delve any deeper into the matter. He could only assume that Mi'er had discovered something and encountered difficulties during her pursuit.
Even the Soul Master level experts who accompanied her were helpless in solving this problem.
Wu Heyi currently has no intention of mentioning what happened to the other four, but instead splits the five-person team in two.
After all, it would be too time-consuming for everyone to search together; their goal was to find out if Mi'er had left any clues.
I was in one group with Lin Bei, and the other three were in another group.
In this way, no matter which group encounters a problem, they can receive support from a Soul King-level expert in a short period of time.
When another team discovers the situation, there will be enough time for them to arrive and provide assistance.
The two teams split up quickly like arrows, rushing off in two completely different directions. They agreed that if they failed to find the special mark that Mi'er left for Wu Heyi within an hour, they would return to the starting point to regroup!
If any suspicious activity is detected or a sudden battle breaks out, a signal flare must be fired into the sky immediately. Of course, if a group has not returned to the starting point or fired a signal flare after an hour, everyone will know what that means!
Less than five minutes after the two teams split up, Lin Bei asked a question with a serious expression.
"Old Wu, did you not tell the truth just now?"
Wu Heyi turned his gaze to Lin Bei, a man who was usually outspoken and eccentric, but who was unusually perceptive this time.
However, upon further reflection, this seems to make perfect sense.
After all, Lin Bei, as a support-type Soul Master, was one of the three geniuses in the junior academy, besides Wu Heyi and Mi'er.
"I don't know what you're talking about!"
Wu Heyi merely glanced at Lin Bei twice without saying anything, and continued walking forward, seemingly not wanting to explain further.
But Lin Bei refused to give up and stood still.
"Don't you trust me? I only told you after they were gone!"
He watched as Wu Heyi continued walking deeper into the forest, without turning back or paying him any attention.
"Although I was not personally involved in what happened at the time, my classmates told me about it after I came back!"
So I know a little bit about the general situation. You don't want to involve them all, right?
Wu Heyi suddenly turned around and stood there like a statue, staring intently at Lin Bei, but Lin Bei continued to speak.
"The direction you led them in should lead them out of this Soul Beast Forest in just one more hour, right?"
Wu Heyi's lips curled up slightly, revealing a smile. He never expected that this guy, who was always unruly, would be so intelligent this time.
"You brought me along simply because you expected me to know about this, and you didn't want me to tell the three of them, plus you needed my soul skill to help you!" Wu Heyi stood firmly in place, his expression calm, and said lightly.
"So, your choice now is to walk alongside me or part ways!" Whether it was because of the distance or Lin Bei's sudden silence, from afar, Lin Bei's eyes looked so gloomy that they seemed to drip water. But in an instant, Lin Bei caught up with Wu Heyi's pace as quickly as the wind.
He gently patted Wu Heyi on the shoulder and comforted him, "We're brothers. Even if you don't trust me, how could I not trust you?"
"If anything happens, just tell me. Don't try to handle everything on your own!"
Lin Bei's guess was absolutely correct; the path Wu Heyi was walking alone was the very direction in which he had killed that Soul Master.
However, as they ventured deeper, the eeriness grew stronger. It had been a short time since they killed the Soul Master; even with the abundant soul energy of the Soul Beast Forest, the vegetation here shouldn't be growing so quickly.
He was astonished to discover that several of the trees that had been destroyed had miraculously recovered at an astonishing speed, as if by magic.
But after walking for a few minutes, Wu Heyi suddenly stopped.
Lin Bei, who seemed carefree, turned around in confusion and asked, "What's wrong? Did you find anything?"
“It seems we’ve fallen into someone else’s trap,” Wu Heyi replied succinctly.
Lin Bei didn't quite understand the meaning of those words. He didn't realize that he had entered any special place, since it was his first time here and he didn't have any particular feelings.
Wu Heyi understood Lin Bei's confusion. He casually pulled a semi-circular dart from his pocket and shot it like an arrow towards a large tree.
Although Wu Heyi was not skilled in using hidden weapons, for some reason, after acquiring the armor, he gradually gained a certain level of proficiency in some of the weapon types that the armor could use. This proficiency seemed to be determined by the number and frequency of times the armor was used.
Therefore, he carried some small and exquisite gadgets with him.
The tree that had been hit looked as if it had been torn open, and then Wu Heyi led Lin Bei to continue striding forward.
Although Lin Bei didn't quite understand Wu Heyi's intentions, he could only follow along. Then he witnessed a scene that left him speechless.
A large tree, with a gap cut off by some unknown force, stood before him like a majestic mountain.
This unbelievable thing truly terrified Lin Bei.
"This, this, this... that tree was definitely not on our path, and we had already started moving forward. How could it suddenly appear in front of us like a ghost!"
