Chapter 666: An Unexpected First Kiss

On the other side of the riverbank, hidden behind a massive boulder, Tu Yelang, the rabbit beastman, was busy working on his own hole in the ice.He was determined to catch some fish to take back to his home. His sister absolutely loved eating fish, so he wanted to bring a good catch back for her.

The harsh winter had only just begun, and since it would definitely last for many more months, his family wanted to catch and save as much food as possible for the later winter months.

Fortunately, the river was full of big, fat fish.

After making a large hole through the thick ice, Tu Yelang didn’t hesitate. He directly jumped straight into the freezing river, catching the big fish with his sharp teeth and paws.

When he finally scrambled back out of the hole, his fur was completely soaking wet. He was shivering violently from the biting cold breeze as he dropped the fresh fish onto the snowy riverbank.

Shaking the water off his body, his gaze accidentally shifted out across the vast, frozen river.

Suddenly, his heart almost stopped.

Through the crisp winter air, he spotted something in the distance.

A mass of long, dark hair was floating in a small opening of broken ice, spilling heavily over the frozen surface.

’Is that a female?’ he thought in sheer panic.

It looked like a helpless female had accidentally fallen into the freezing water and was now completely unconscious. His heart raced with fear as he dashed across the ice toward her at full speed.

When he finally arrived at the edge of the hole, his worst fears were confirmed.

A female was submerged in the icy water, her eyes closed tightly. She had completely passed out from the extreme cold.

To make matters worse, she wasn’t even wearing proper winter clothes; she only had a small top covering her upper body, leaving her pale arms and shoulders completely bare to the freezing air. Her face was bright red and her skin looked dangerously stiff.

Just how long had she been trapped in this frozen river?

Desperate to save her life, Tu Yelang immediately shifted into his human form, transforming into a beautiful young man.

He leaned over the ice, gripped her waist with his strong hands, and pulled her upward with all his might to get her out of the water.

But as her body broke the surface, he froze in absolute shock. Instead of human legs, a massive, shimmering blue fish tail appeared in front of him.

The young man was so stunned he almost dropped her straight back into the icy river.

’What in the hell is this?!’ he thought, his eyes wide with disbelief.

’A... a fish? A mermaid beast female?’ He wanted to rub his eyes to make sure he wasn’t dreaming, but he kept his grip tight and successfully hauled her heavy, wet tail completely out of the water onto the snow.

Looking down at the frozen, stiff female, he quickly leaned down to check her breathing. Her chest was barely moving, and her breaths were incredibly shallow.

Panic surged through him. He couldn’t just stand there and watch her die.

Without wasting another second, the worried rabbit beastman tilted her head back, opened her mouth, and immediately began to perform CPR.

He had heard that if a female falls in water, they have to pass air through their mouth so they can breathe.

So he pressed his lips directly against her cold, moist lips, forcefully blowing air into her mouth to help her breathe, desperately trying to bring the beautiful mermaid back to life.

Lan Yue had been peacefully floating in the water, her mind completely at ease. The cold river was so comfortable to her mermaid skin that she had unknowingly closed her eyes and fallen fast asleep.

Suddenly...something warm touched her lips.

Lan Yue’s eyes flew open.

For a moment, her mind went completely blank, unable to process the sensation.

Right in front of her was a strange young man. His eyes were closed, his face was extremely close, and his lips were firmly pressed against hers, forcing air into her mouth.

’Boom!’

Lan Yue felt her entire head explode.

"AHHHHHHH!"

She immediately pushed him away with all her strength. The young man wasn’t expecting it, and he nearly rolled backward into the snow from the sheer force of her shove.

"W-Who are you?!" Lan Yue stuttered, her voice cracking as her face instantly turned bright red.

Tu Yelang was completely stunned, rubbing his chest. "The female is awake!"

Before he could explain himself, Lan Yue’s eyes landed on him, and her face became even redder.

Because she suddenly realized...the young man was not dressed.

"YOU PERVERT!" Lan Yue immediately covered her eyes with both hands.

"Where did you come from?! How dare you kiss a female in broad daylight?!"

Tu Yelang was completely dumbfounded by her reaction.

"No! No! That’s not what happened at all! You fell into the river! I saw you from the other side and thought you had lost consciousness! I was trying to save you!"

Lan Yue’s defensive expression froze behind her hands. Then, her shoulders slumped, and she muttered in a tiny, embarrassed voice, "I wasn’t unconscious..."

Tu Yelang blinked, leaning closer to hear. "What?"

Lan Yue’s face burned with intense embarrassment as she lowered her hands just a bit. "I just... fell asleep."

Silence fell over the riverbank. The cold wind blew across the frozen river, rustling the bare trees.

Tu Yelang stared at her, completely frozen. Lan Yue actively avoided his gaze, looking down at her scales.

Tu Yelang looked at the freezing water, then at Lan Yue, then back at the freezing water again.

"You... fell asleep?"

Lan Yue lowered her head completely, hiding her red cheeks. "...Yes."

Tu Yelang was entirely speechless. What kind of person falls asleep inside an icy, frozen river?

For a moment, he seriously wondered if all sea beastmen were this incredibly strange.

Meanwhile, Lan Yue felt so embarrassed that she wanted to dig a hole and bury herself under the snow.

Then, she suddenly remembered something, and her eyes widened. "Wait! You... put on some clothes first!"

Only then did Tu Yelang realize his current, naked appearance. His face immediately turned red.

The rabbit beastman hurriedly grabbed a piece of animal hide from the rock and wrapped it around himself.

"My proper clothes are on the other side of the river where I was fishing." He awkwardly scratched his head, looking away. "So, can I use yours?"

Lan Yue waved her hand frantically without looking back. "Just wear it! Anything is better than this!"
