Chapter 385 Barty Crouch Under Attack
Meanwhile, Karkaroff was staring at his good-for-nothing, foolish student.
Meanwhile, Luna and Xiren were chatting away, oblivious to everyone else.
"I think I just saw a bigmouthed rainbowfish in the water."
What is a large-mouthed rainbow fish?
"A fish that can blow bright bubbles, and these bubbles can make people feel happy."
"This is the first time I've heard of this." Xiren took the towel handed to him and dried his hair.
When he was thrown over there, the horse-shaped water monster deliberately splashed a lot of water on him, soaking his clothes and hair.
"But weren't your eyes closed when you were in the lake?"
"I can only see the bigmouthed ballfish because my eyes are closed," Luna said earnestly. "They're invisible."
"Like harassing a rainbow?"
"Even rarer than harassing rainbows."
"Wait, what big-mouthed fish? Harassment? What are you guys talking about?" Ron finally couldn't help but ask.
When Siron came out of the lake, they ran over from the stands, and Professor McGonagall, who was in charge of maintaining order, did not stop them.
Luna explained it again.
"Impossible." Hermione frowned, her tone certain. "Such creatures don't exist, because there's no record of them in any book."
"That doesn't mean they don't exist," Luna said calmly. "They were right there, right in front of me."
"you--
"Alright, Hermione, this isn't the time to argue about this," Harry quickly stepped forward, standing between the two.
"What we should do now is think about how to celebrate Silen getting the highest score again."
"That's right." Ron stopped thinking about the Big Mouth Fish and said excitedly, "Siron was the fastest of all the warriors to get out and rescued everyone. Maybe he can get a perfect score this time!"
"Don't say that, it's too exaggerated." Xilun waved his hand.
A perfect score is definitely impossible.
With Ludo Bagman and Karkaroff around, he could never get a perfect score, but getting the highest score shouldn't be a problem.
Since they had come out so early and there was really nothing to do, Siron used magic to dry his clothes and then chatted with Harry and the others.
Fred and Yangzhi also arrived, but after exchanging only a few words, they used stomach aches as an excuse to return to the castle.
However, Siren knew very well that they had not gone back to their dormitory to rest at all, but had gone to Hogsmeade through a secret passage.
Fred just said he needs to prepare ten barrels of butterbeer for the banquet later, and Hogwarts doesn't serve that drink.
Siren also took a moment to observe the people sitting on the referee's bench. Maxim, Karkaroff, and Ludo Bagman all looked particularly grim, while Dumbledore was about the same as usual, occasionally turning around to chat with Professor Moody.
Mr. Barty Crouch was absent again today; Percy was the one who came.
He was probably the happiest of all the referees, frequently glancing towards Xilun and then smiling and nodding in an encouraging manner.
After waiting for about half an hour, the second warrior finally appeared: Fleur Delacour.
Unlike Xilun, she was brought up by the mermaids after fainting, and obviously she did not reach the final mermaid village, failing halfway.
After being brought ashore, Mrs. Pomfrey rushed over in a great alarm, while Mrs. Maxim also jumped up from her seat in a panic and ran over.
Percy followed.
"Well done," he said with a smile. "After you became a champion, many foreign wizards were gloating, thinking that you were the youngest and Hogwarts was doomed to lose this competition. But as it turns out, they were all wrong."
"I really wish I could tell Mr. Crouch this good news right away," Percy sighed. "After all, he's the person who's had the most contact with foreign wizards. Actually, apart from the Triwizard Tournament, I can help him with other things too."
"Speaking of which, was Barty Crouch too busy with work to come?" Celen asked.
“Yes, he’s too busy.” Percy’s face showed concern. “The last time I saw him was three days ago, and he looked, I mean, very haggard from being so busy.”
"And then you never saw him again?" Siren asked.
"To be precise, I haven't seen him since that blatant attack," Percy said.
"An attack?"
"Oh, I should have kept it a secret." Percy slapped his forehead in annoyance.
"What exactly happened?" Celen asked again. "Mr. Crouch was the only judge who gave me a perfect score in the first event. Would anyone attack such a fair person?"
"You're absolutely right!" Percy suddenly became excited, as if he had found a kindred spirit.
“Alright, since you’re so concerned about Mr. Crouch,” Percy said in a low voice, “Mr. Crouch was attacked three days ago on his way to work at the Ministry of Magic. It’s said that the attacker hid on his usual route and then launched a surprise attack.”
"Is Mr. Crouch alright?"
“Of course,” Percy said. “Mr. Crouch is a powerful wizard with a long history of battles; he defeated his opponent on the spot. It’s just a pity we didn’t catch him; by the time the strikers got there, he was already gone.”
"By the way, you absolutely mustn't tell anyone about this," Percy added. "Mr. Crouch doesn't want this to get out. He feels that people's concern will affect what he's going to do next—he's so admirable; even after being attacked by a dark wizard, he didn't give up his work."
Perhaps what he doesn't want to give up is another job.
Xilun frowned.
He felt that something was off about this whole thing.
Barty Crouch was ambushed by a mysterious wizard on his way to the Ministry of Magic, and the attacker later escaped.
This means that nobody knows what happened in between. Even what Percy just said was told to them by Barty Crouch.
But are these things really true?
After all, there is a real Death Eater outside, and that is Mr. Crouch's son, Barty Crouch Jr.
So it was him?
Since I didn't see it with my own eyes, I'm not sure, but I can say that it's very likely.
"Gabrielle! Gabrielle! Let me go, I need to save her."
A hysterical scream interrupted Xiren's thoughts.
It was Fleur. With Madame Pomfrey's help, she had woken up and was now struggling desperately to get back into the Black Lake, while Maxim was pulling her along.
"It's alright, Fleur. Gabrielle is fine. Look, she's here."
Gabrielle ran and jumped into Hibiscus's arms.
"You saved her life," Percy said. "Well done."
"Not really." Xilun waved his hand. "The school wouldn't actually send them to the mermaids. Those words were just to scare the warriors."
