Chapter 64 The Value of the Half-Giants
Chapter 64 The Value of the Half-Giants
Thanks to Hogwarts' moving staircases, these minor inconveniences that are usually just for students can be incredibly useful in crucial moments.
Anyway, it was thanks to these stairs that Celeste was able to shake off Cerberus time and time again.
This guy actually came out, smashed through the door frame and railings, and jumped down directly when there were no stairs, chasing after Xilun like a madman.
From the fourth floor to the first floor, Xilun didn't even have time to catch his breath; he could only keep running forward.
Finally, in the foyer, Siren saw Hagrid outside the gate.
He seemed to know that Lu Wei had broken free of his restraints, and immediately rushed towards the castle.
"Come out now!" Hagrid shouted.
Xiren turned and rushed out the gate, with Lou Williams following closely behind.
"Stop, Lou Williams, stop!" Hagrid waved his hands.
Normally, if he did this, Lou Williams would definitely stop, but he didn't this time.
The three-headed dog acted as if it didn't recognize Hagrid at all. Without pausing for a moment, all three heads opened their mouths, revealing their gleaming white fangs, and went straight for Siren, who was closest to it.
Then Hagrid charged in, creating a violent gust of wind, and crashed into the middle head of the three-headed dog.
"boom!"
It was as if the earth itself trembled.
"Snap!"
After a crisp cracking sound from the middle of its neck, the three-headed dog twisted to the side, rolled its massive body a few times on the stone steps, and then collapsed to the ground with a thud, motionless.
Hagrid staggered back three steps, his face flushed red, and the veins on his forehead were clearly visible.
Xilun was completely stunned, standing there speechless.
This was the first time he had directly realized the true value of being a half-giant.
That huge three-headed dog didn't even have a chance to fight back; it was overturned instantly.
Judging from the commotion just now, the middle neck of the three-headed dog should also be broken. If it didn't have three heads, that one blow would have instantly killed it.
No wonder Hagrid likes beasts with sharp teeth and claws; with his strength, even a werewolf's eyes would become much clearer after being slapped.
"Oh, Luwei..." Hagrid, who had just regained his footing, saw the motionless Cerberus, and his eyes immediately turned as red as his face. Large tears rolled down his disheveled beard.
"Oh my god, Luwei is dead. I killed it..."
"Without Hagrid, calm down." Celen stepped forward and patted him on the waist.
"Louwei has three heads, but its heart is its most fatal weakness."
"Um..." Hagrid choked out, "You mean...it...it's still alive?"
"Of course." Celen walked to the three-headed dog's side and could faintly hear its heartbeat; it was indeed still alive.
"Let's take it somewhere else first." Xiren glanced at the castle. "The commotion just now probably woke up quite a few people. If someone sees you and Cerberus, you'll both be in trouble."
Siren wasn't worried about the professor; he was worried about students seeing it, especially Slytherin students.
Hagrid is still on the Ministry of Magic's watch list. If any young wizard were to tell the Ministry about Cerberus, even Dumbledore might not be able to protect him.
Even Louie the Cerberus will be put to death; that's what the Committee on the Handling of Dangerous Animals does.
So Hagrid, holding Cerberus, and with Siren's help using the Levitation Charm, moved Fluffy to the edge of the Forbidden Forest, right next to Hagrid's cabin.
"I'm so sorry, Celeste." After putting down Cerberus, Hagrid stood there helplessly. "You were almost killed by Fluffy... but I... But I promise... Fluffy usually... it..."
Hagrid wanted to say that Lou Williams was usually very obedient, but the terrifying scene just now made it impossible for him to say such a thing.
"I know what you're trying to say," Siron said, "and I believe you."
"You believe that?" To be honest, Hagrid didn't react for a moment.
"Yes." Xilun nodded.
After calming down, he also recalled the details he hadn't had time to think about earlier.
The three-headed dog was acting strangely, or rather, very strangely. Its eyes were so red that you couldn't even see the pupils; they looked like they were stained with blood.
The three-headed dog he saw last time didn't look like this.
Rather than attributing it to some kind of bitter enmity between enemies, Xilun felt it was more likely influenced by some kind of dark magic.
As for who that person was, need I say more? It could only be Voldemort. I remember he called Quirrell an idiot, and then there was no sound from inside.
"Dark magic?" Hagrid frowned after hearing Siren's explanation. "But Luwei is in the castle. Who would use dark magic on him?"
"Of course, it's the person who wants to go through that trapdoor," Celen said.
"How...how did you know that Luwei was guarding the trapdoor?" Hagrid stared at Siron.
"Of course Harry told me," Syren said matter-of-factly.
"He...wait." Hagrid suddenly realized something. "You mean someone's trying to steal the Philosopher's Stone?"
"It's not just a thought, they've probably already started taking action." Xiren turned and glanced in the direction of the castle.
It's been a while since he was chased out; Quirrell should have reached the final stage by now.
"I'll go check it out!" Hagrid didn't care about Luwei anymore and turned to go back to the castle.
The magic stone is the most important thing; it must never be lost!
"I'll go with you," Siron said.
"No, that's too dangerous," Hagrid immediately refused. "You can stay here, or go back to your dorm."
"I promise I'll stay with you and won't wander off."
"That won't do either!"
Just as the two were arguing, a tall, thin figure suddenly appeared out of thin air on the field.
The common sense that Hogwarts forbids Apparition seems to completely disregard this rule.
Hearing the noise, Hagrid turned around and his eyes lit up with surprise when he saw who it was: "Professor Dumbledore."
"Hagrid." Dumbledore's expression was serious as he glanced at the three-headed dog lying not far away.
"Can you tell me what happened here?"
"When I came back from visiting Fred and George at the school hospital, I found that someone had broken into the fourth floor," Celen said quickly. "The person broke the chains of the three-headed dog and then used magic to drive it mad, making it delirious."
"I just happened to be passing by when I was being chased out of the castle. Luckily, I ran into Hagrid, who saved me."
Dumbledore's face grew increasingly grim... "It seems someone doesn't want me to stay at school today, so they forged a letter from the Ministry of Magic."
Dumbledore strode quickly toward the castle, and Sirius hurriedly followed.
"Hagrid is right, Mr. Ollivander, you should go back to your dormitory and get some sleep now."
"I want to know what happened, Professor Dumbledore," said Sirius. "I can't have been chased by Cerberus for nothing, and with you here, I'm sure I'll be safe, won't I?"
"Your trust makes me feel ashamed, Mr. Ollivander." Dumbledore sighed and continued walking, without saying anything more about letting Siren go back to his dormitory.
Siren followed quietly behind, not asking him why he insisted on walking to the castle instead of using Apparition... He could have Apparated at school.
