Chapter 4: Setting Sail! Saving the World!
Chapter 4: Setting Sail! Saving the World!
"So, you mean this thing is a gigantic signal transmitter, and if you shrink it down and send it out, you can summon a powerful army of novae in the universe?"
John slurped his noodles with a knife and fork while glancing at Lily, the unassuming black scientist.
Perhaps because the gazes of several men made her feel somewhat offended, she seemed a little awkward.
"That's right, that's what I think, and I've secretly connected to the S.H.I.E.L.D. archive network and found some information—before the disaster, they tried to send signals beyond Earth, but obviously, they failed."
While munching on her pasta, Hanlu gave Matt a thumbs-up—it tasted good, better than what he made.
Perhaps due to his personal subjectivity, the food he conjures up is either something he has eaten himself or something he thinks looks like.
How could a native East Asian possibly make food that foreigners like?
At most, I'll give them two Wallace burgers to try.
However, people had previously requested to eat some East Asian food, but it was clear that the bland flavors of East Asian cuisine simply could not satisfy them.
Those tongues, already "ruined" by seasonings like salt and sugar, are unable to accept bland flavors.
So in the end, they could only afford to eat hamburgers, maybe with a hand-pulled chicken at most.
This time, Matt really showed his skill by personally making noodles, managing to create different flavors all by himself!
They eat pasta, while during the Cold Dew season they eat simple mixed noodles.
Matt even considered that he preferred milder flavors and didn't add any spicy seasonings.
Seeing the glint gradually appearing in John Walker's eyes, Hanlu felt somewhat helpless.
This soldier probably didn't realize how serious the situation was; he simply thought that words like "alien" and "space travel" sounded more impressive than Earth.
And there's more good news: Earth seems to be completely unconcerned about whether aliens have any restless ideas. Earth is in such a sorry state, let them invade if they want!
But Hanlu disagreed.
A crucial question: If Thanos obtains the Power Stone and even destroys Xandar, what will the Nova Corps be able to accomplish?
Moreover, having already seen the latest episode, Hanlu feels extremely pessimistic about the future of this planet.
They started way too late. If they had started earlier, things might have been easier for them, but now...
It's all tears when I talk about it.
The Cold Dew solar term has been here for several months now.
Although John and the others said that the disaster had been going on for more than five years, there was still no sign of the situation improving.
Fewer and fewer people are alive, and more and more are dying.
The recent appearance of red-eyed zombies made him increasingly uneasy.
He could only keep comforting himself that eventually a Dark Doctor would take care of everything. Even if he didn't cause trouble, the Celestials would have to send someone over to check on things, right?
They have a fellow countryman lying underground.
Therefore, Hanlu felt that what she needed to do now was to gather as many living people as possible.
To ensure that there is still a social environment where he can communicate normally, otherwise he is afraid that he will collapse due to loneliness!
"We should send it out to those who are capable, so that they can use it to send signals to the outside world, and perhaps the whole world can be saved."
Upon seeing the little thing in the girls' hands, John, who already possessed a strong sense of mission, immediately slammed his fist on the table and shouted.
Katie, the second-generation Hawkeye, immediately stood up as well, feeling that they had to do something too.
But Lily and Kamala, standing to the side, were not so excited. They looked at the three more mature men with some uncertainty.
"Actually, I think it's more suitable to leave this kind of thing to them. You can see they are obviously much more capable than us."
Lily wanted to say a few more words in her defense.
After all, although she hasn't caused a lot of trouble like in the original story, she hasn't become a true hero either, and she can't be selfless.
She felt that it was best for her to stay in her own little house and live her life, just to survive, right?
Katie glanced at John Walker, who seemed to take it for granted that he would extend his hand and wait for Lily to hand him the signal receiver.
That attitude made Katie feel somewhat underestimated.
"You're safer here. The trouble in the city has been resolved. You should be able to handle things now, right?" John Walker said.
Katie turned to her two sisters and looked at them for help—give me a hand!
Kamala had no choice but to bite the bullet and step forward: "We can help too, don't underestimate us."
Lily, a cigarette dangling from her lips, scoffed, "You guys don't even know where S.H.I.E.L.D. is, and you want to help?"
Even so, she still pulled out her computer and started working on it, finally typing one last keystroke:
"There's a S.H.I.E.L.D. signaling site in Ohio, from which we can send signals into outer space."
After saying that, Lily smiled, placed her right hand on the armrest, and turned around with a heart full of pride.
Hanlu clapped and encouraged her with a smile: "Great, let's go!"
The six-person tactical team set off immediately.
After packing their belongings for the journey, they encountered Matt's chariot.
Kamala curiously tapped on the cylindrical object on the back of the chariot: "What's this thing?"
John Walker, who was checking the vehicle to make sure it would make the journey safe, replied casually.
"I don't know. Hanlu took us to a secret laboratory and found a lot of strange things there. He insisted that we take this 'big coffin' with us, saying that if things got really bad, we should all die together."
At this moment, Hanlu walked over and gently tapped the Iron Man armor located behind the girls' vehicles, looking at the triangular arc-shaped reactor.
If he's not mistaken, this should be a Mark 50.
He originally wanted to try his luck there and see if he could "pick up a bargain" in advance, but he didn't expect that these little girls would find it first.
Lily stood excitedly to the side, hands on her hips: "How about that? I even broke through Iron Man's armor!"
This blatant boasting didn't surprise Han Lu. Instead, he spoke with a smile, as if addressing a junior:
"I know you're smart, but you should know that Tony Stark once built a Mark armor out of a pile of scrap metal in a cave."
Lily, the Black woman, was speechless after hearing this.
She always felt she was no less capable than Tony, but in practice...
Okay, there is still a gap.
"Let's go! We're going to cross most of North America next!" Hanlu shouted, interrupting Lily's embarrassment.
"Yay! The maiden voyage of the Interstellar Federation's Uhura!"
Kamala raised her fist, but before she could even show off, Katie pushed her into the back seat. Kamala, already in character, still made a gun gesture with her left hand.
"Forward! First Lieutenant!"
The car started and headed towards the unknown road ahead.
The ruins outside the window rushed past, and Hanlu watched the safe house gradually shrink in the rearview mirror.
Everything he's doing now is simply fulfilling the most basic desires of a living being.
Live, and then find your kind.
