Chapter 27 Seeking the Horse

"The changes that have occurred in Peng Jun are indeed somewhat unusual," Zhang Shengyong said, glancing at Wei Hongbo.

Wei Hongbo and Zhang Shengyong had no intuitive understanding of GG's analytical data, so although Wei Hongsi had mentioned it earlier, they hadn't reacted much. Only now did they realize how outrageous it was.

Zhang Shengyong stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray, turned around, and said, "You're not kidding, are you? In just two months, someone who was almost eliminated from the industry can become a top expert?"

He can accept the transformation from ugly duckling to swan, after all, that's normal growth; but he can't accept a chick turning into a phoenix, that's a myth completely detached from reality.

"I never joke about data," Wei Hongsi said seriously. "And there were never even two months."

"Not two months?" Zhang Shengyong asked, looking puzzled. He wasn't sure if he had misheard or if his brain had misunderstood.

Wei Hongsi said with great certainty, "According to my conservative estimate, it won't exceed the time between his last failed interview and when he took the initiative to contact Zihu."

"That's not just seven days!" Zhang Shengyong exclaimed in shock. "What proof do you have?"

"I have no evidence," Wei Hongsi said, shrugging. "But you can ask the company Peng Jun interviewed with and see if he was timid and hesitant or just boastful."

This is not difficult to verify, and it sounds quite reasonable.

Wei Hongbo asked, "Do you have any estimates that aren't conservative?"

Wei Hongsi nodded: "Counting back from the day Peng Jun interviewed Zi Hu, it wouldn't have been more than three days."

Wei Hongbo, however, understood what his younger brother meant: "Do you think Peng Jun, like Li Yunxiang, also acquired abilities that didn't belong to him through some special means?"

Wei Hongsi said, "Yes! I think the person who changed him is the mastermind behind it all."

Wei Hongbo stroked his chin and slowly nodded.

If your speculation is correct, then Peng Jun has most likely had direct contact with the mastermind behind the scenes. Following this line of investigation has a good chance of yielding a major breakthrough.

Moreover, Wei Hongsi has already drawn up a relatively small time frame, with very clear start and end times. Investigating Peng Jun's whereabouts over those three or seven days is much easier and more feasible than investigating his suspicious activities over the past six months.

Wei Hongbo quickly came up with several investigation plans, as well as details on how to conduct the investigation and verification.

"Don't be confused!" Wei Hongsi waved his hand in front of his older brother's eyes. "Get Peng Jun's body to the identification center as soon as possible."

Neither company has revealed any problems, and we currently lack any substantial evidence. A hasty investigation would likely be uncooperative. A more feasible approach would be to request the relevant industry regulatory authority to conduct a collaborative investigation under the guise of regulatory oversight.

However, neither of those companies is located in Yuecheng, making a cross-regional investigation even more complicated. Moreover, setting up such a large-scale operation could easily alert the suspects, and even if those two companies initially had some leads, they might end up finding nothing.

Using limited manpower and energy on this is completely counterproductive.

Zhang Shengyong knew that investigating those two companies would be troublesome, so he suggested, "The three companies that commissioned GG are all local. You can contact them first to find out more about the situation."

Wei Hongbo nodded and said, "That's a good idea."

Based on the situation encountered with the beverages at the amusement park, the three clients who commissioned the drinks and the mastermind behind them should not have any connection. However, gathering more clues about Peng Jun through them would be very helpful for the investigation.
