Chapter 81, Room 3
Chapter 81, Room 3
Chu Sheng squatted in front of the statue and stared at it for a long time.
"Tell me," he said, stroking his chin, "is this a proper god? He doesn't look like a good person at all."
Amber glanced at it casually: "It's so broken, I couldn't even tell."
Ella squatted in front of the idol, holding a leftover roasted fish bone from the morning, and placed it reverently into the empty lamp on the idol.
"My God, please grant Ella a grilled king fish."
Arthur parked the carriage behind the shrine, where four winged horses grazed on the roadside grass. After checking the surrounding area to make sure there were no signs of magical beast activity, she came in carrying a bundle of firewood.
Chu Sheng stared at the burning fire, remaining silent for a moment.
Veronica.
Is she a time traveler?
If so, does she have a strategy guide? Is her extraordinary path also through the "player" system?
Amber handed him a piece of sweet potato cake: "Still thinking about Veronica?"
Chu Sheng took it, took a bite, and said, "No, I'm just a little puzzled. Why did she have to open a milk tea shop of all things?"
Arthur, sitting on the other side of the fire, covered his mouth and yawned: "You'll learn more about Veronica when we get to the heart of the Empire. Records of her can be found in the Knights, the Mage Tower, and the Sanctuary."
"How much real stuff can be written in a record?" Chu Sheng swallowed the sweet potato cake and mumbled indistinctly.
Yinye raised her hand: "Like opening a milk tea shop?"
"Opening a bubble tea shop is nothing," Chu Sheng scoffed. "I'd only admit she's better than me if she'd owned an internet cafe."
What is an internet cafe?
"The place where I went to school."
The night grew deeper.
Insects chirped in the grass outside the shrine, and the Pegasus occasionally snorted. The leaves that Ambermind had forced to grow blocked most of the night wind, and the firelight shone on half of the statue's face, making the unfortunate god look as if he were listening to their conversation.
The space inside the shrine is not large, barely enough for five people to squeeze in.
Ella was the first to rush over, plopped down on the hay with a thud, curled her tail to cover her belly: "Ella got her spot!"
Yinye strolled over slowly and kicked her shin: "If you sleep sideways, how are others supposed to lie down?"
Ella looked up, puzzled. "Then I can sleep upright."
After she finished speaking, she rolled over and her tail slapped against Silver Leaf's face.
Silverleaf pounced and rolled around with Ella.
"You stinky dog! Your tail hit me again!"
"I didn't mean to!"
"You said the same thing last time!"
"Lady did it on purpose last time, it had nothing to do with Ella!"
Arthur spread out the blankets and solemnly divided the areas: "Ella and Silverleaf will sleep on the left, I'll sleep on the outermost side, Chu Sheng will sleep in the middle, and His Majesty will sleep on the right."
Amber was already sitting on the hay, her long skirt pulled to one side, revealing a section of her snow-white calves. She reached out to Chu Sheng: "Come here, let me help you adjust your cloak; the ground is cold at night."
Chu Sheng hesitated for a moment, but still went over.
Amber spread her cloak on the hay and let Chu Sheng lie down. The cloak carried her faint, fresh fragrance.
As soon as Chu Sheng lay down, An Bowen lay down on her side behind him, her arms naturally wrapping around his waist. Her ample, soft breasts pressed against Chu Sheng's back through her white dress, warm and comfortable.
Chu Sheng leaned back comfortably, temporarily forgetting about Veronica, and fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, Chu Sheng was woken up by Ella's tail.
The tail had somehow crossed over the silver leaf and was now resting on his nose.
Chu Sheng opened his eyes. Amber was still hugging him from behind. Silver Leaf was curled up next to Ella, and Arthur was holding his sword and leaning against the outermost edge.
Everything looks wonderful.
Of course, it would be even better if Ella's tail hairs didn't get into his nostrils.
"Achoo!"
Chu Sheng couldn't help but sneeze, and the shrine erupted in chaos.
Silver Leaf was startled awake, and his head bumped into Ella's chin; Ella jumped up with a howl and stepped on her own tail; Arthur subconsciously drew his sword, while Amber smiled and gently pulled Chu Sheng into her arms, shielding him from the flying blanket.
After breakfast, the group continued their journey.
The road conditions are much better than yesterday, gradually turning into a compacted dirt road, and drainage ditches that have been artificially repaired have begun to appear on both sides.
Arthur said this meant they were close to the Imperial Post Road and would reach the post station marked on the map by noon at the latest.
Amber sat on one side of the carriage, her long dress spread out, her demeanor elegant, but because of her tall and voluptuous figure, she took up almost the space of two people.
At this moment, she was looking out the window with great interest, seemingly curious about all the man-made sights.
Ella was very interested in the word "post station". Amber taught her a few words yesterday, and now she goes up to the wooden sign by the roadside and tries hard to recognize it.
"A...station," Ella said seriously. "Why is it called a station? Is it a place where you sleep standing up?"
Chu Sheng nodded: "Yes, you can sleep standing up tonight."
In the afternoon, the post station finally appeared.
It was a two-story wooden and stone building built next to the intersection of the post road, with a stable, barn and a well outside.
A wooden sign for the Imperial Post Station hangs at the entrance, swaying in the wind. It features a horse's head yawning with its mouth open, which is the Imperial Post Station's registered trademark.
Ella was the first to jump out of the carriage and excitedly rushed towards the stable. Chu Sheng grabbed her by the back of the collar: "That's where the horses sleep."
Ella turned around, utterly shocked: "Even horses have beds?"
"have."
"What about Ella?"
"You have one too."
"What about Chu Sheng?"
"I have one too."
Ella was relieved, wagging her tail rapidly: "Then everyone has a bed, the inn is great!"
The innkeeper was a tall, thin human woman. When she saw the knighthood insignia that Arthur presented, her attitude immediately became much more respectful.
"Are you adults staying overnight?"
Arthur nodded: "Five people, five rooms."
The boss's smile faltered, and he looked somewhat hesitant.
Chu Sheng's heart skipped a beat when he saw her expression.
No!
Don't trigger classic side quests in places like this!
Let my little brother rest a bit and get some sleep!
The shopkeeper rubbed his hands together and said with an apologetic smile, "I'm really sorry, there are too many caravans today, and there are only three empty rooms left on the second floor."
Amber blinked gently, her gaze falling on Chu Sheng, a slight smile playing on her lips: "Three rooms, huh?"
Chu Sheng felt a chill run down his spine, and Arthur's ahoge (cowlick) stood up as well.
The owner, completely oblivious to the awkward atmosphere, enthusiastically introduced the rooms: "One king-size bed room and two double rooms. The king-size bed room is very spacious; it can easily sleep two people."
Chu Sheng closed his eyes. "You fucking shut up."
Amber gently placed her hand on Chu Sheng's shoulder and said softly, "In that case, shall I share a room with Chu Sheng?"
Arthur spoke almost immediately: "No!"
