Chapter 17 Magic Genius Girl
Chapter 17 Magic Genius Girl
It was a beautiful arc; the mountain of flesh leaped through the air at an illogical speed above the wolf pack, and then fell back down at an acceleration clearly defying gravity, crashing heavily down upon the wolves.
The ground trembled, flesh and blood screamed, and a foul-smelling wind rolled into Klein's mouth, which he could not close in shock.
The shock Klein, the bone-stealing badger, felt was more intense than the tremors of the ground.
No, no, no, no, what is this thing?!
Such a fleshy monster? So big, and it can jump? And it looks like it uses magic to jump? Isn't this world a little too crazy?
Is this right? Is this right? Is this really right?
"Woof woof! Awooo..."
Beneath the flesh monster was a wind demon wolf, only half of which was being held down. It was now raising its body and frantically tearing at the flesh that was pressing it down, but it was still being slowly swallowed up by the flesh.
It seems... that entire flesh and blood monster was pieced together in this way?
The flesh-and-blood monster paused for a moment, then began to roll into the depths of the forest, in the direction the Wind Demon Wolf with its cubs had gone.
As it rolled, it swallowed everything in its path; stones, plants, and all sorts of things slowly spun around inside its body before finally being expelled.
It's unclear how it tracks its prey, but it doesn't seem to have vision; at least, it didn't detect the invisible Klein.
Watching the flesh-and-blood monster quickly depart, Klein, the Bone-Stealing Badger, climbed down from the tree with lingering fear.
It seems uninterested in plants, which is perhaps a silver lining, but the creatures of this forest may be in for a world of trouble.
Such monsters have come to Wild Dog Forest... Could it also be due to the demonic tide?
Klein couldn't help but worry. If even these creatures were fleeing, just how powerful must the dragon that triggered the demonic tide be?
Back in his vine thicket, Klein was now more worried about Yanami; it was too dangerous for her to be alone on the plantation.
On the way back to the plantation, Klein could hear the mournful cries of wild beasts and the sounds of huge objects crashing into the ground from the depths of the forest.
Fortunately, the plantation was relatively remote, and there were no signs that the monster had been there. Furthermore, the entrance to the plantation wasn't large enough for the mountain of flesh to enter, although Klein wasn't sure if the entrance could even stop it.
Before entering the plantation, Klein deactivated his invisibility.
As Klein entered the plantation, he suddenly sensed something approaching from the sky.
Buzz—Bang!
Suddenly, a piece of rock wall not far from Klein was cut off. It was thanks to magic, the most magic Klein had seen all day.
Wind Blade?! The Wind Demon Wolf has chased us to the plantation for revenge?!
Oh no, Yanami! I shouldn't have left Yanami alone—wait?
Klein rushed into the plantation, only to find that there were no Wind Demon Wolves inside, but only Yanami standing there, stretching out her palm and chanting something.
"Wind, please become a sharp blade and shoot forward."
hum-
A wind blade, larger than the Wind Demon Wolf, shot out and struck the rock wall next to Klein, sending rocks flying into Klein's face.
Why does Yanami know this magic?!
Yanami looked in the direction where she had cast the spell and suddenly saw a creature at the cave entrance. She was startled and her shoulders jumped, but then she smiled with delight.
"Is it Klein?"
Upon hearing Yanami's voice, Klein, the Bone Thief Badger, snapped out of his shock and nodded, controlling the badger's head.
Seeing this, Yanami ran over happily.
"Klein, you're finally back! It seems something terrible has come to the forest. I was worried you might be in danger and was just about to go out to look for you."
"No, you were right not to go out. A terrible monster has come into the forest."
After Klein told Yanami everything he had seen, she raised her eyebrows in surprise.
"There really is such a monster... Klein, are we doomed?"
Klein sometimes couldn't tell if she was serious or joking, although he himself was quite unsure.
"No...probably not. But it's not around here right now, so it's okay for now."
Outside the plantation, there were many plants parasitized by Klein, and Klein could easily sense the movements of these fleshy monsters.
"Does Yanami know what that is?"
"have no idea."
She shook her head. Just now she said something had come into the forest, and Klein thought she had seen it too.
"By the way, can you sense what's happening in the forest?"
"I just sensed that the creatures in the forest were afraid, and I thought something might be coming."
After saying that, Yanami added another sentence.
"However, I can only roughly sense it when the emotions are very intense."
Ah, speaking of which, she did mention that she had felt the pain of a troll being devoured by a demonic sword. At the time, Klein didn't think much of it, assuming she had heard the troll's cries.
This ability can give you a general idea of the other person's location, but it has significant limitations; you can only sense it when emotions are running high.
However, Klein had something else he was even more curious about.
"Yanami, you didn't mention before that you knew the [Wind Blade] spell, did you?"
Did Yanami lie to me? Is that why she secretly practiced while I was away?
But I feel like Yanami shouldn't need to do something like this...
"yes."
"Then what was that magic you just cast?"
Klein stared into Yanami's eyes with the eyes of a bone-stealing badger. Her deep lake shimmered, and all Klein could see was clarity.
"It's something I just learned."
"Did you find a magic scroll?"
It couldn't have been dropped by monsters, could it?
"No, the Wind Demon Wolves used Wind Blade a lot today. As I watched, I felt like I had grasped how to use it, so I tried to replicate it myself."
"You... have replicated the Wind Demon Wolf's magic..."
Yanami nodded, her lips pursed slightly, and she ran her fingers through a strand of blue hair.
"I thought I might be able to help Klein, so I practiced in the plantation. I accidentally cut a rock off. I'm sorry."
"No...it's okay, it's just a stone."
Is she really a genius?
Yanami previously mentioned that she learned magic by secretly watching others, but it turns out she can even learn monster magic? How do you translate monster chants into human language?
Oh, right, the fact that she can communicate with all monsters means she can understand the languages of other creatures.
I wish I had that kind of talent.
"Yana, you're really amazing."
Aside from a little envy, Klein felt nothing but感慨 and gratification.
I've really struck gold!
"Hehe, you won't get any benefit from praising me."
Despite saying this, Yanami took out some jerky from her pocket.
"Mr. Klein, the Bone Thief Badger, although I don't have any bones, would you like some jerky?"
"I'm actually hungry."
Klein accepted the jerky amidst Yanami's smile.
