Chapter 373: Surprise.
Chapter 373: Surprise.
Valerian and the team returned to the house, and they all slumped down on any soft surface they could find. After half an hour of silence, Viney asked, "Val, how did you know that the serpent can be killed that way? Do you know, even the Avion Party will have to shed a lot of sweat and blood to take it down."
The other two also trained their ears at Valerian’s voice. The young man said, "In my world, there is a magical creature, the Dragon. A few days before I came to this world, I found out about another species of dragons. They dwell in the deep blue seas and are called flood dragons.
Despite the differences, all these species have one thing in common, They all have a reverse scale. This scale is taboo. Once you touch it, you kill the beast or will surely die. So when the beast got angry, I spotted the reverse scale flickering, so I decided to attack it there."
Shiba sat up and asked, "You mean to say this attack was a gamble?"
Valerian nodded, and Shiba stood up and asked, "Why did you not ask me for help?"
The young man sighed and said, "I did not know you wanted to be a joke to that Avion person."
Shiba was speechless, and the young man leaned back on the couch. Captain held his breath to stifle his laughter. Viney, on the other hand, was different and cackled full well.
Valerian stood up and said, "I will bathe and go to the Guild. I need to discuss something with Miss Prim."
Shiba asked, "What do you want to discuss?"
Valerian quickly ran up the stairs, saying, "The wild boss."
...
After an hour, Valerian appeared in the guild building. He spotted Miss Prim, but he realized that the lady was not behind the counter and was not wearing the uniform. Thinking that he was late. The young man decided to turn around when he heard Prim calling for him, "Valerian, what are you doing here?"
The young man stopped and said, "Miss Prim, I wanted to discuss a few things with you, but you seem off work, so I thought maybe I should find you tomorrow."
Prim shook her head and said, "It is fine if you want to talk. The discussions are not a part of the work, and they are just a little something we Guild Managers do to make sure that the Dungeoneers realize how dangerous is that dark place."
Valerian nodded and asked, "Would you like to eat something? My treat."
Prim thought about it and nodded before the two people left the guild building. They did not care that some people were gawking at the scene.
...
Valerian and Prim found a street-side cafe and sat down. The young man helped her with the chair and let the waiter serve her the drinks first. The young man did not rush to talk about anything. After Prim had taken a few sips of the drink and asked, "What did you want to discuss?"
The passers-by were ogling at Prim. Unlike her cold appearance, her figure was bountiful, and she wore a blue skirt with white flowers. The gentle image paired with the devastating figure was a lure these people could not avoid. However, Prim was used to it, and Valerian was unlike any other man.
He said, "Ma’am, I want to ask you about the wild boss on the fifteenth floor."
The lady asked, "What about him?"
Valerian asked, "Since this wild boss was a mutation and the Avion party defeated it, why is it still a mutation?"
Prim nodded and said, "You probably do not know, but once a monster mutates. The changes it goes through are recorded in the codex of the dungeon. This codex lies on the floor where no one can go. The details recorded inside the codex will not change."
Valerian nodded and asked, "So, you mean to say this mutation will happen again, no matter what?"
Prim nodded, and Valerian asked, "This codex is responsible for the respawning of the creatures? How does that work?"
Prim replied, "The codex is what imprisons those mistakes made by the High-gods. If the codex is to be destroyed, those creatures you see, they will come out in the real world."
Valerian nodded, and Prim continued as she sipped her drink, "The wild boss is a mutation. Till the first time it mutated, it had been defeated five times. The intelligence of this creature is at the level of a human. However, it lacks speed. The entire fifteenth floor is a boss room because the Wild Boss moves around to hunt other creatures."
Valerian hummed and asked, "Why is there a boss on the middle floors? Weren’t bosses supposed to spawn on the decade floors?"
Prim nodded, saying, "The creatures spawn based on their soul strength. If a creature is neglected or not hunted for a long time, the soul imprisoned inside the codex will grow strong, and the creature will evolve into a floor boss or a wild boss. However, as long as the creatures are constantly killed, the codex will perform its task perfectly."
Valerian nodded, and after some thought, he asked, "Can you tell me what drops one could gain from killing the Wild Boss?"
Prim shook her head and replied, "This is not a normal boss, so the drops also vary. Till now, we have registered four different drops."
Valerian raised his eyebrow and asked, "What are they?"
"The drops have different purposes. One of them is called Vulcan Machete. It is a weapon with a fire attribute. We do not know how it works, nor do the ones who obtained it. Second is the berserk armor. It may seem like defense equipment, but it does not protect you from attacks.
On the contrary, it gives you a berserk temperament and a terrifying damage output. The ones who occupied it lost four members in two days because they all wore the armor while battling like crazy.
Third is the Recall bugle, which allows one to travel to any floor they have been inside the dungeon. The fourth is a book about the origins of the creatures."
Valerian nodded and sighed, "This is going to be troublesome. Ma’am, can you tell me if this creature has any weaknesses?"
Prim shook her head and said, "The stronger party alliances have always taken down the wild beast. It is mostly the top-level ones."
Valerian nodded and said, "They intend to monopolize the creature."
Prim nodded while her gaze fell over Valerian and asked, "You intend to go after it?"
The young man nodded and said, "I wish to go through the dungeon to get what I want."
Prim was surprised and then nodded. She thought Valerian believed that the legend of the wishing floor was true."
The young man picked up the cup, took a few sips, and said, "I see. I appreciate your help, Miss Prim."
Prim shook her head, and the two finished the meal silently. The young man paid the bill and bade farewell to the lady. He returned to the house and went straight to his room. He spends the rest of his time resting and thinking about a few things in his mind. Viney came to find him for dinner, but Valerian refused.
He was thinking about how to increase his speed through the dungeon. He did not ask his team to help him because they were already pushed to the limits. Valerian did not want to pressure them. It was he who wanted to go back home and not the others.
His gaze landed on the moon in the sky, and he thought, ’Do you know how much I miss them all? Do they still remember me? What if they did not recognize me when I went back?’
Soon he fell asleep, and the door to his room opened slowly. Shiba had come to check on him. However, the door was locked, and Shiba could only return after sighing. She was worried that the young man was depressed or something.
The next morning, they were visited by a guest. Valerian did not know who it was, but Viney said it was a guest looking for him specifically. He ought to go downstairs to check the situation.
Valerian dressed up and came downstairs to find an old man with building muscles sitting on the couch. He asked, "Sir, I am Valerian."
The old man stood excitedly, "Finally, I can meet a master craftsman like you. I am Adler, and it is my honor to see you, Master Valerian."
Valerian was surprised and asked, "Sir, I cannot understand you."
Adler smiled, took a card from his sleeve, and said, "This is my identity card. I am the president of the Craftsman Guild. These days, I spend a lot of time studying the war ax you made for my grandson. I did not expect those two materials to be used in such a manner. You are a true genius.
So, today I was able to locate you and wanted to ask you if you would be able to join our guild. You do not have to worry about anything like rules and regulations. You can work at your own pace. The guild is very supportive and protective of our own people."
