Chapter 1043 The Unsung Hero [Part 1]
the realm of janvidr shook as ethan and the golden gargoyle exchanged several blows.
they were moving too fast, and all chloe could see were blurs that clashed in the sky, in the forest, and in the mountains.
wherever they went, the sound of powerful explosions rocked the surroundings, destroying the place they were fighting.
in order to keep her safe, sebastian and dainsleif led chloe away from the battlefield. ethan's battle against the golden gargoyle was intense, and the aftermath could potentially hit her if she were too close.
sebastian understood that stacking that many legacies at the same time was not an easy thing to do.
in fact, he knew that ethan was feeling immense pain right now.
a normal person could only hold a single legacy inside of them.
the perfect example of this was nicole, who inherited baradiel's legacy. however, since the legacy wasn't compatible with her, it caused her great suffering.
unlike her, ethan was compatible with any legacy, so he was able to wield them all at the same time. even so, he could only keep it up for a certain period of time before reaching his limit.
a loud explosion erupted in the distance as the golden gargoyle smashed into one of the mountains, creating a deep hole inside of it.
but, it only took the monster a few seconds to free itself and once again entangled ethan in a battle to the death.
'so, this is the power of otherworlders,' ethan thought as he dodged the attack of the golden gargoyle, which seemed nearly immortal.
fortunately, dainsleif had a special ability that prevented the monster from regenerating its injuries.
ethan believed that as long as he damaged the golden gargoyle to the point that it would lose the ability to fight, things would become easier.
so, ethan targeted the part that made the gargoyle so difficult to deal with, and that part was none other than its wings!
he only targeted the gargoyle's wings, but the latter saw through his plans and used its entire body to block his attacks, leading to the injuries it received on its chest, arms, and legs.
ethan, who knew that he was on borrowed time, wasn't being idle and increased the ferocity of his assaults.
the pain was searing, but it was not something that he couldn't handle.
at most, he just needed a few minutes of time to recover, which wasn't such a bad thing for using such power.
chloe, who noticed ethan's distress, immediately flew in his direction, followed by the sea god's trident and the ancient wendigo.
"i'm alright," ethan said through gritted teeth. "it's just a little bit of pain. it's nothing, really."
chloe nodded before hugging him tightly.
no words needed to be spoken between them because they understood each other.
a few minutes later, the two heard a light cough, which made them remember that they weren't in a world of their own.
ethan and chloe glanced at the giantess, who was looking at the two of them with a solemn expression on her face.
"are you perhaps trial takers?" the giantess asked.
"yes," ethan replied. "we entered the stone stele from the sylvan realm."
"ah... those firbolg,s huh?" the giantess frowned. "stay for a day or two. i need to know how many of my children died in this battle."
although she tried her best to hide it, the anguish in her voice was still noticeable.
she didn't even bother to say anything else and turned around to head to the places where countless dead wolves were located.
her eyes were filled with grief, and her clenched fists were shaking visibly. however, since she had visitors, she couldn't allow them to see a weak side of her, for she was the demigod of the realm of janvidr.
an existence that had lived for over a thousand years and had watched the moon rise and fall in the sky of her domain.
she had countless children, and some of them had formed families of their own.
in her eyes, all of them were her family, and the sight of so many of them dead and dying filled her heart with pain and grief.
