Chapter 24 The Demon Race Returns
Chapter 24 The Demon Race Returns
The clanging of hammers in the workshop came to an abrupt halt.
All the elves, whether guards or craftsmen, froze in place.
The sound seemed to have a physical freezing effect, chilling everyone's blood from the top of their head to their heels.
Lin Mo was taken aback.
"Who is it? Making noises like that during mealtime?"
"That sounds like bad luck!"
But when he saw Fendona's face turn deathly pale, his heart skipped a beat.
Oh no, it's the demons!
"Damn demons, they're here again!" Fendona gritted her teeth, her hatred seeping out from between them.
"Clang!"
Master Eld's vernier calipers slammed to the ground with a sharp crack.
The old elf was trembling all over, his lips quivering.
"Impossible... This is absolutely impossible... Based on their attack patterns, the next... the next one is at least half a month away!"
Before the words were finished, an elven scout covered in blood tumbled into the workshop. One of his arms was twisted into a pretzel, and his face was covered in black blood and an inescapable fear.
He roared with all his might.
"Princess—"
"The Demon Race has invaded!!!"
"The vanguard...has breached the first wooden wall!"
The workshop instantly erupted in excitement.
"Quick! To the armory!"
"My bow isn't calibrated yet!"
Panic spread rapidly among the elves like a plague.
Fendona turned around abruptly and looked at the pile of brand-new weapons in the corner of the workshop.
Five hundred and fifty compound bows.
Six hundred and twenty repeating crossbows.
This is all the result of their three days and three nights.
Is this enough to face the demon army?
But it's still better than before!
Fendona forced herself to regain some confidence.
While all the elves were in chaos, Lin Mo stood up.
Without saying a word, he walked straight to the pile of new weapons and, amidst the noise, picked up a repeating crossbow.
"Click".
A crisp, mechanical sound.
He expressionlessly pushed a fully loaded magazine into the crossbow.
All the elves' eyes were involuntarily drawn to this direction.
Lin Mo calmly weighed the repeating crossbow in his hand, his gaze sweeping over every elf present.
Panic solves nothing!
"Weapons are made to kill. Now that the enemy has arrived, it's the perfect time to test their sharpness."
Fendona stared at him blankly.
This human... doesn't he know how terrifying the demons are?
Why does he seem so fearless?
Lin Mo pointed the crossbow outwards and called out:
"Your fear is exactly what the enemy wants. Calm down and take up your weapons."
"Distribute equipment, and in squads, find your preferred combat positions."
"Let those monsters see how effective your new weapon is!"
Master Eld was awakened by his words, his whole body trembled, and the fear and confusion in his mind were instantly cleared away.
Yes.
What's the use of being afraid?
The weapons are right here, and the enemy is right in front of us.
Fendona immediately realized what was happening and shouted the order:
"Leon! Assemble your sharpshooter squad! Issue all new weapons first!"
"yes!"
A lithe elf appeared and knelt on one knee.
"The rest of you, pick up your longbows, staves, and shields, and defend the line!"
"The goddess of nature is watching you! Fight to the death for the glory of the elves!!"
With the order given, the elves finally had a leader and began to act, sounding the horn of counterattack.
"Waaah—"
In the distance, thousands of monsters surged like a black tide, colliding violently with the hastily assembled elven defenses.
Blood and flesh splattered everywhere.
Elves, who are not good at close combat, are too vulnerable to be defeated by the claws and fangs of those twisted monsters.
The screams were continuous.
"Hold the line!!"
Lin Mo shouted, but his shouts were drowned out by the deafening battle cries.
A young elven guard, his face as white as paper, dropped his longbow to the ground with a clatter. His mental defenses crumbled, and he turned to run away.
Lin Mo frowned and rushed over in one stride.
He forcefully turned the elven guard around, making him look at the brightly lit workshop behind him.
"That is your workshop, that is your hope."
"Do you want Master Eld to use the tools he made himself to execute a coward?"
The elf froze.
Lin Mo released his grip, no longer looking at him, and instead raised the repeating crossbow, smoothly changing the magazine.
He slung the crossbow over his shoulder, pointed with his chin at the World Tree branch above the sharpshooter captain named Leon.
"Sharpshooter, advance to the high ground."
"Establish fire suppression points and control the battlefield's field of vision."
"Don't waste the time we bought for you in the front row."
Lyon understood.
He glanced at the composed Lin Mo, and the pride of an elf ignited a strong desire within him not to be looked down upon by this weak human. He shouted loudly:
"Sharpshooters! Follow me! Take the high ground!"
Fendona raised her staff high, her voice clear and firm, dispelling the panic.
"Fight for our homeland!!"
Lin Mo nodded slightly; this young princess was stronger than he had imagined.
He followed Lyon's group of sharpshooters, using both hands and feet to climb up the thick branches and vines of the World Tree.
He quickly found a tree branch with a wide view and squatted down.
Below are the two sides engaged in fierce combat.
The gentleman does not stand under the wall.
For a human being as powerless as him, the safest place is right next to these remote units.
After finding a good position, Lin Mo did not rush to fire, but quickly scanned the entire battlefield.
His gaze swept across the chaotic front lines, revealing that the demons who launched the surprise attack were not charging blindly.
They are consciously gathering on the side of the hillside, seemingly clearing space for something.
Sudden--
"Boom... Rumble..."
A dull, teeth-grinding noise accompanied by a tremor of the earth followed.
"What was that noise?" Lin Mo looked at Leon beside him, his brows furrowed.
Lyon's face instantly turned extremely ugly as he stared intently at the shaking hillside.
"It's...it's an earth python! Damn it!"
"A ground python?"
Lin Mo had just asked the question when, in the next second, his pupils suddenly contracted.
The earth is wailing.
The soil and rocks on that hillside surged violently as if they were alive, then suddenly collapsed downwards, tearing open a hideous giant hole!
Thick black fog, mixed with the stench of sulfur, gushed out of the cave entrance.
Immediately afterwards, a giant python, over ten zhang in size and resembling a tunnel boring machine, slowly emerged from the ground.
It has no eyes, only a huge, round mouth that takes up its entire head.
Its mouth is filled with countless tiny, ring-shaped teeth that are spinning at high speed, chewing the hard rocks and the roots of the World Tree to dust!
And so, a tunnel was born, running directly from outside the defensive line into the heart of the elven city.
The elven city, which had finally managed to stabilize itself, was like an anthill that had been punctured, and immediately fell into even greater chaos.
