Chapter 25: Has the Tunnel Boring Machine Become a Spirit?
Chapter 25: Has the Tunnel Boring Machine Become a Spirit?
Holy crap!
Lin Mo almost fell off the tree branch.
He stared intently at that thing, with only one thought in his mind.
"Isn't this tunnel boring machine some kind of sentient being?!"
Once this thing comes out, what's the point of guarding the defense line?
They don't even go through the front door; they just crawl out from under your ground and give you a full-blown attack!
"Attack that monster! Quickly!"
Fendona shouted loudly, and the tip of the Moonlight Staff shone brightly, as a water dragon roared and crashed down on the earth python.
All the elven mages reacted immediately, unleashing ice spikes, fireballs, and wind blades at the earth python as if they were free.
On the ground, the elven warrior fired his last arrow, drew his twin swords, and charged forward, only to be entangled by countless low-level monsters.
They could only watch helplessly as the giant python, battling the magical bombardment, slowly emerged from the ground.
"Stop it! We must stop it from getting out!"
Fendona's voice was filled with despair.
Once this war behemoth is fully unleashed, its mouth will turn the entire camp upside down!
The earth python's enormous size grants it terrifying magic resistance.
Hundreds of spells bombarded it, causing its skin to twitch a few times, but they didn't break through its defenses at all.
During the violent tumbling, its massive body finally broke free from the tunnel's confinement!
Another round of concentrated magical fire finally blasted through its flesh, and the giant beast's body stiffened abruptly, its flesh and blood flying everywhere as it crashed to the ground.
"boom!!"
Amidst the deafening roar, dust billowed into the air.
Although the ground python was dying, its mission was accomplished.
From that dark, sulfurous cave entrance came strange metallic scraping sounds and chilling roars.
An endless stream of demonic creatures, their eyes flashing red, surged out like a rotting flood!
Leading the way was a row of heavily armored demon soldiers carrying enormous bone shields.
He was over 3.5 meters tall, with bulging muscles all over his body and dirty gray-green skin.
The bone shields they held were as thick as walls, with ominous dark red magic patterns flashing on them, clearly indicating that they were "tanks" with high health and defense.
Behind them, a dark, transparent shield quietly rose up, covering the entire cave entrance and the surrounding hundred meters.
The elven mages' subsequent spells struck it, only creating ripples before falling silent.
"Release the arrows!"
An elven centurion roared.
"Whoosh whoosh!"
Countless arrows shot from traditional longbows flew past, clanging and clattering as they struck the bone shield. Apart from a few sparks flying, they barely scratched the surface.
Those heavily armored demon soldiers even provocatively pounded their chests with their shields, making muffled "thump-thump" sounds.
One of them grinned, revealing a mouth full of fangs, grabbed a small demon "puppy" next to him, snapped its neck with a snap, and splashed its scalding black blood onto the elven camp.
"Damn it! It's a lich's barrier!"
Lyon, perched in the tree, was ashen-faced.
"What the hell?"
Lin Mo asked.
"A demonic spellcaster, sir!" Leon explained quickly, "Starting at the fourth rank! This barrier can block most magic; our mages... are useless!"
He angrily punched the tree trunk.
"No! Physical attacks can penetrate! We still have a chance!"
After listening, Lin Mo felt more at ease.
As long as there's still a chance.
"Composite Bow Squad!" Leon shouted the order. "On my command! Enchant your arrows with 'Armor Penetration' and 'Explosion'! Three volleys! Take down those tin cans in no time!"
"Whoosh—whoosh—whoosh!"
The sound of the bowstring vibrating was deep and powerful.
The arrow, imbued with a pale golden light, was five times faster than a regular arrow, arriving in an instant with a sharp whistling sound.
The next second, the heavily armored demon soldier at the front, who was still swaggering around, had his bone shield pierced through by three arrows with a "whoosh".
It's not just shattering, it's penetrating!
The three arrows, carrying immense kinetic energy, pierced through the magical barrier and pinned the three-meter-tall demon soldier, shield and all, to the ground.
The demon soldier looked down at his shattered bone shield, utterly bewildered.
When did elves get these kinds of things?
The entire battlefield fell silent for a second.
All the elves witnessed this scene.
Then came thunderous cheers.
"It works! God! The new weapon works!"
"Shoot! Shoot these bastards to death!"
Morale was instantly boosted from freezing point to boiling point.
"continue!"
Lyon was overjoyed, drew his bow and arrow, and gave the order again towards the cave entrance nearly a kilometer away.
More than 500 composite bows were transformed into more than 500 sniper rifles, and the targeted harvesting began.
The demons' heavily armored units either had their helmets blown off or their shields pierced by arrows when facing them.
The compound bow is for spotting targets, while the repeating crossbow is for strafing.
Those demons who tried to rush up and tear apart the elven positions were met with a metallic storm of crossbow bolts.
"Click-click-click-click—"
The elves only need to pull the trigger to empty a magazine in three seconds.
The dense crossbow bolts formed a deathly barrage, and the demon "bastards" at the forefront fell in droves, unable to even touch the edge of the defensive line.
Inside the workshop, Master Eld, wielding a repeating crossbow, fired wildly at the surging monsters, chanting incantations:
"See that! You ignorant fool! That's the power of standardization! That's the art of tolerance!"
Every time the old man emptied a magazine, he would shout excitedly and quickly replace it with a new one.
"Damn demons! Feel the wrath of the god of craftsmanship! You trash from hell!"
Lin Mo's eyes twitched as he watched from the tree.
Good heavens, this old man has completely gone mad; he's converted from the God of Crafts to the Cult of Machines.
Despite the favorable situation on the battlefield, Lin Mo's unease grew stronger.
Not right.
The demons are being beaten so badly, yet they still don't retreat? Isn't this just pure suicide missions?
Sure enough, once the ground was covered with a thick layer of corpses, the demons' offensive slowed down.
They did not retreat.
A sickening scraping sound came from the cave entrance, and more than a dozen even larger monsters were pushed out.
They resemble bloated beetles, each carrying a wriggling, green, slimy growth on its back.
In front of the sarcoma was a huge crystal eyeball.
In front of these beetle monsters, several demon soldiers wielding huge tower shields provided protection.
"What the hell is that? A mobile artillery turret?"
Lin Mo muttered something to himself.
As soon as the words were spoken, the fleshy growths on the backs of those beetles suddenly contracted, and their crystal-clear eyes burst forth with a blinding light.
"Buzz—"
The piercing sound tore the battlefield apart.
Dozens of dark green energy beams shot out, accurately striking the treant defenses in front of the elves!
There was no explosion, only a chilling hissing sound.
The moment the treant's hard trunk came into contact with the beam of light, it melted and carbonized like butter meeting a hot iron, emitting billowing, foul-smelling black smoke.
An elven guard was unable to dodge in time, and his left arm was swept by the beam of light.
His entire arm disappeared, leaving only a pool of bubbling black pus on the ground.
The guard froze for a second, then let out a shrill, inhuman scream, rolling on the ground, his voice hoarse.
"It's the Corrosors! Get away from their acid!!" Fendona cried out in desperation.
The cheers that the elves had just begun, ignited by the new weapon, came to an abrupt halt.
A chilling fear gripped their throats once more.
